Volleyball Skills

 

  1. Movement Skills
    1. Moves  with lead foot moving in that direction
    2. Opposite foot pushes off
    3. Weight remains on balls of feet
    4. Body position is low (center of gravity)
    5. Returns to Ready position

 

  1. Ready position “Athletic Position”
    1. Feet shoulder feet apart with non dominant slightly in front
    2. Body position is low and balanced with feet pointing forward
    3. Back is flat
    4. Arms extended in front with palms facing ceiling

 

  1. Underhand Serve
    1. Ball is at waist level in non-dominant hand held slightly in front of striking hand
    2. Body weight is transferred to non-dominant foot
    3. Dominant hand swings forward to contact ball
    4. Contact underneath ball with fist or heel of hand
    5. Hitting arm follows through in direction of the target

 

  1. Forearm Pass
    1. Starts in ready position
    2. Arms away from the body
    3. Clasp hands one inside the other
    4. Rotate arms inward with elbows extended and together
    5. Keeps eyes on ball
    6. Contact ball with forearms at waist level 2-3 inches above hands
    7. Force is absorbed with body extension ( shrug shoulders and extend legs)
    8. Follow through towards target

 

 

  1. Overhand Pass
    1. Ready position with arms bent above head
    2. Hands 4-6 inches above forehead
    3. Thumb and index fingers form a triangle through which you can see the ball
    4. Rest of hand forms shape of the ball
    5. Shoulders and feet are square to target before contact
    6. Contact of ball above forehand with finger pads
    7. The arms and legs are extended on contact
    8. Weight transfers to front foot on contact
    9. Hands move together in upward direction
