VOLLEYBALL GENERAL OBJECTIVES

 

Upon completion of the volleyball unit, the students will:

  1. Enhance their leg and arm strength and flexibility as a result of regular participation in daily volleyball drills and activities
  2. Successfully demonstrate the fundamental skills of the forearm pass, overhead pass, and serve.
  3. Exhibit a conceptual understanding of the block and spike.
  4. Exhibit an understanding of offensive and defensive tactics and concepts through participation in class games.
  5. Relate Newton’s Laws of Inertia and force; and the concept of trajectory to the game of volleyball.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of rules, terminology and history of volleyball.

Application of Skills (overhead pass, forearm pass, serve)

Skills are automatic and are demonstrated with consistently and with few observable errors in technique.

Skills are effective and legal; Skills can be performed and combined successfully in isolation and/or in game settings

Skills can be performed, but has difficulty combining in isolation and/or in game settings. Performance may be ineffective and inconsistent.

Attempts skills, but has extraneous movements; unable to control object in isolation and/or in game settings.

 

 

Application of Strategy

Assumes roles of attack-passer, setter, hitter, etc, and can transition smoothly between offense and defense. Always supports teammate with the ball by being in, or moving to an appropriate position. (off the ball movements)

Usually applies most offensive/defensive concepts, but with some hesitation/delay.

Attempts to use skills appropriately given the situation.

Shows some application of some offensive/defensive concepts, but lacks consistency.  Little evidence of offensive placement and/or defensive positioning.
