Overview

Physical education is an integral part of the total education of every child in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Quality physical education programs are needed to increase the physical competence, health-related fitness, personal/social responsibilities, and enjoyment of physical activity for all students so that they can be physically active for a lifetime. Areas that the Physical Education Program addresses are: Improved Physical Fitness; Skill Development; Regular, healthful physical activity; Support of other Subject Areas; Self Discipline; Improved judgment; Stress reduction Strengthened peer relationships; Improved self-confidence and self- esteem; Setting Goals.

Grades will reflect achievement of the following Maryland State Department of Education standards for a specific marking period.

MSDE PHYSICAL EDUCATION STANDARDS

Exercise Physiology

Explains how physical activity contributes to personal health and enhances cognitive and physical performance.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: 
1.  Attend all classes unless legally excused.
2.  Be in the locker room when the tardy bell rings.
3.  Change into appropriate clothing for physical education class.
4.  Report to the assigned physical education station on time.
5.  Return to the locker room at the end of class.
6.  Remain in the locker room until the dismissal bell rings.
7.  Change clothes in the locker room only.
8.  Treat classmates and staff the way that you want to be
     treated.
9.  Use appropriate language at all times
10. Display good sportsmanship at all times.
11. Handle all equipment, facilities, and self in a safe manner.
12. Give an honest effort to the best of your ability in class.
 
Late work and missing work:
• Each assignment will have a due date. This is the date on which the assignment is expected to be submitted. The grade will drop one letter grade if not submitted by the due date,
• The deadline is the last day an assignment will he accepted for a grade. Work not turned in by the deadline will be considered missing.
• Missing work will be recorded in the grade book as a zero on the 100 point scale. 
 
Revision of student work:
• Formative assessments may be retested to receive a higher grade until the end of a lesson sequence; however, the second score will take precedence over the first.
►The end of the unit assessment or Summative Assessment can not be retaken.
• In the case of revised written work, the original student work, along with the teacher comments and the rubric, must accompany the revised work in order to be graded.
 
Extra Credit/Work:
• There will be no extra credit at any time.
